Can You Move? (2007)
This photographic installation aims to push our collective understanding of the medium. It attempts to do this by integrating slide film, slide projector, images of construction gates, and spatial qualities of the gallery. Each aspect articulates a poignant moment in photography’s evolution, as a medium, tool, cultural artifact, and form of expression. This installation aims to position each viewer in particular proximity to the projected image by placing a sign where the viewer would see the slide show in its most three-dimensional form. The sign also provokes the viewer to reconsider their intentional placement as it asks or curtly states “can you move?” These points of tension and representation ask the viewer to critically reflect on the purpose of photography as it has evolved and its place in our current context of ongoing urbanization.
This was part of a group exhibit, titled Terra Infirma, in Chicago, IL fall 2007.
